In-Direct - Open Dialogue
The final informational void in our engagement series is the open dialogue. In an attempt to investigate the deeper feelings of community members the goal of this engagement was to start a generic conversation carefully and tactfully steered by our teammates - with the hopes of organically arriving at novel community issues, both positive and negative. The benefit of tacking this approach is its openness: by leaving the conversation open ended and without a specific goal, it can eventually lead to issues and topics which neither the inerviewer or interviewee had anticipated.
Lake Valley Camp is a local organization located in Tiefenthaler Park - whose goal is to support youth development and influence positive change in under-served neighborhoods. We were fortunate enough to be able to partner with them for this engagement. Our goal with this engagement was to uncover issues about which we had not considered. The participants were a group of four students and young adults, and while they are not from our specific site, their insight into the greater community is still invaluable. Values and issues are not always isolated to a few specific blocks. |
